Reporting to the Manager, Operations Accounting, the Supervisor, Inventory Accounting, will perform daily analysis of margin, inventory, and cost accounting reports for one region of the company and work with the appropriate individual(s) to resolve any exceptions/issues. This position will work closely with the Branch and Division personnel to ensure accurate reporting of margins and inventory transactions in addition to answering questions regarding inventory counts, adjustments, or other inventory related inquiries. In addition, the Supervisor, Inventory Accounting will also oversee the completion and accuracy of inventory accounting tasks and responsibilities of multiple Inventory Accountants responsible for other regions.

 

Key Tasks:

  • Provide daily analysis of margin and inventory reports for a Region and works with appropriate individuals to perform corrections.
  • Analysis includes GP report, Cost Exception report, Stock Transfer Markup report, Blend Calculation register, Purchase Price Variance Report,
  • Negative Inventory Cost Adjustment Review, amongst other reports.
  • Daily supervision of 2-4 Inventory Accountants ensuring work product is complete, accurate and timely. In addition, provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Integral part of the training of new Inventory Accountants in addition to assisting all inventory accountants with resolving complex issues.
  • Assist Branch and Division personnel with physical counts of inventory at each branch – including participation in physical counts of inventory, reconciliation of inventory counts and adjusting of variances.
  • Accounting functions, including journal entries, cost adjustments, and account reconciliations.
  • Approve journal entries and cost corrections made by the inventory accounting staff up to $40K.
  • Assists Manager, Operations Accounting with on-going process and procedure adherence and improvements within the function.
  • Attends division and region meetings. 
  • Determines materiality for accruals needing to be done at month end for inventory issues.
  • Determines when purchase price variances should revalue inventory on hand or should flow to the P&L if inventory has already been sold and at what level costing
  • corrections are made.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Operations Accounting Management.

Skills:

  • Ability to make decisions, perform actions and provide communication relative to: direction/goal setting, performance management, relationship building, mentoring, coaching and team building.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Strong verbal, written communication, strong computer (MS Office – Excel), analytical and organizational skills with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to Understand and analyze issues and apply accounting standards to reflect accurate financial reporting.
  • PeopleSoft experience a plus.
  • Strong integrity and business ethics.

 

  • Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Related Field
  • 3-5 years accounting experience preferred/supervisor experience is considered an asset
